To speak English fluently, practise speaking every day instead of only reading rules. Spend 30 minutes daily on listening, shadowing, speaking aloud and recording yourself. Learn ready phrases, think in simple English sentences and stop translating from Hindi. Follow a 4-week plan and check your progress every week.
Many people understand English well but freeze when they have to speak. This is very common, and it can be fixed with daily practice.
This guide gives you a clear 30-day plan, a short daily routine and useful phrases you can start using today.
Why do people hesitate while speaking English?
The main reason is translation. You think a sentence in Hindi, change it word by word into English, and then speak. This takes time, so you pause.
Other reasons are fear of mistakes, a small active vocabulary and very little speaking practice. Reading and listening help, but only speaking builds speaking skill.
What is a simple 30-day plan to speak English fluently?
Each week has one main goal. Keep the same daily time so the habit becomes fixed.
| Week | Main goal | Daily task |
|---|---|---|
| Week 1 (Days 1–7) | Start speaking aloud | Describe your day in 10 simple sentences |
| Week 2 (Days 8–14) | Build phrases | Learn 5 phrases and use each in 2 sentences |
| Week 3 (Days 15–21) | Think in English | Talk to yourself in English for 10 minutes |
| Week 4 (Days 22–30) | Speak longer | Give a 2-minute talk on a new topic and record it |
If you need English for interviews or office work, a course in spoken English for jobs can add job-focused practice to this plan.
What should your daily 30-minute routine include?
- 5 minutes: listen to a short English clip (news, talk or podcast).
- 5 minutes: shadow the same clip, sentence by sentence.
- 5 minutes: read one paragraph aloud slowly and clearly.
- 10 minutes: speak on one topic and record yourself on your phone.
- 5 minutes: listen to the recording and note 2 things to improve.

How does shadowing help you speak faster?
Shadowing trains your mouth and ear together. Choose a clip of 30 to 60 seconds with clear speech.
First listen once. Then play it again and speak along, just a second behind the speaker. Copy the speed, stress and pauses. Do this 3 or 4 times with the same clip.
Why should you record yourself?
When you speak, you cannot hear your own mistakes clearly. A recording shows you where you pause, which words you say wrongly and how often you use “umm”.
Keep your recordings. After 30 days, play the first and the last one. The difference will motivate you.
How can you start thinking in English?
- Name things around you in English: door, window, charger, bottle.
- Describe what you are doing: “I am making tea.”
- Plan your day in English in your mind.
- When you do not know a word, describe it in simple words instead of switching to Hindi.
Which 20 daily-use phrases should you learn first?
Ready phrases save time because you do not have to build them each time.
| Phrase | Phrase |
|---|---|
| Could you please repeat that? | Let me think for a moment. |
| What I mean is… | In my opinion… |
| I agree with you. | I see your point, but… |
| Can you help me with this? | I’ll get back to you. |
| Sorry, I didn’t get that. | That sounds good. |
| As far as I know… | To be honest… |
| Let’s move on. | Just a minute, please. |
| I’m not sure about that. | What do you think? |
| It depends on… | Thank you for your time. |
| Could you explain that again? | I’m looking forward to it. |
What mistakes should you avoid?
- Waiting to speak until your grammar is perfect.
- Learning long word lists but never using the words.
- Speaking too fast to hide nervousness.
- Practising only on weekends instead of every day.
- Comparing yourself with fluent speakers instead of your own last week.
How can you measure your progress?
Check three simple things each week: how long you can speak without stopping, how many times you pause or say “umm”, and how many new phrases you used.
Write these in a notebook. Small weekly gains add up over a month.

Frequently asked questions
Can I speak English fluently in 30 days?
In 30 days you can become much more comfortable and confident if you practise daily. Full fluency takes longer, but this plan helps you build the speaking habit.
Why do I hesitate while speaking English?
Most people hesitate because they think in Hindi and translate each word. Learning ready phrases and thinking in simple English sentences reduces this pause.
What is shadowing in English practice?
Shadowing means listening to a short English clip and repeating it right after the speaker, copying the speed and tone. It improves pronunciation and flow.
Should I learn grammar first or start speaking?
Start speaking with simple sentences and learn grammar side by side. Waiting for perfect grammar often stops people from speaking at all.
How do I know my spoken English is improving?
Record a one-minute talk every week on the same kind of topic. Compare the recordings for pauses, filler words and how long you can speak without stopping.
